Permission slip-slip up

New Thing #63

EARLY Monday morning Lilly T realized that she hadn't printed out her choir competition permission slip nor had she had her mom sign it(mom doesn't usually cross paths with her in the morning). Unfortunately, we didn't have access to a printer so we headed for FedEx-Kinko's and printed the form out from Blackboard and I signed her permission slip(at 2:00am!)

(I'm more or less her older sister, that's what I'm for).

he's got wheels...

New Thing #62

Laura S and Christoph rented a wheelchair for Shawn D, and we took him out for the first time since his surgery. I wheeled Shawn around in a wheelchair. I've only ever played around with wheelchairs, I've never pushed someone around who needed one.

just call me nurse..

New Thing #61

I am helping take care of a friend.

I am visiting Shawn D. who I am happy to report seems to be doing much better now(he broke his hip the day before V-day and had to have surgery). He is able to hop around a little with crutches and is back to playing WoW as usual. I'm staying with him at his house this week, and helping him out(fetching drinks etc.) and his parents made me dinner tonight, it was so very delicious. He's glad for the company, he's been insanely bored.

Import friends...

New Thing #60

I'm terrible at giving directions. Today, I successfully navigated a road trip without looking up directions. Granted it's a route I've taken before, I've screwed up the last few times. It was a triumph for me!

I also introduced one set of friends(from southern VA) to my group of friends from Northern VA and everyone got along really well and had a great time!

The best kept secrets...

New Thing #59

*Today, my new thing is a secret. I can't tell you anything more or it won't be a secret:) We'll see how it turns out--well I hope.

*I assure you however that this is something I've never done before!

Like, omg people say like alot...

New Thing #58

Today, I counted how many times I heard the unnecessary usage of the word "like."
I'm not exactly sure if the 90's movie Clueless is to blame for this ignorant slang, but I think this was when I first started hearing that blasted word. I have heard even the most educated of people(myself included) fall victim to this awful trend. I decided to do this to make myself(and others) more aware of it's improper use as a verbal auxiliary.

*drum roll*

I counted "like" used improperly a whopping 236 times! It may have been more but I'm sure I missed a few. This includes family, acquaintances, friends, teachers, coworkers, and random conversations I overheard at school.

Sunshine in a vase...

New Thing #57

Today, I placed a flower order for my mom's birthday, to be delivered at work. I have never gotten her flowers on my own(only as a kid at the grocery store with help). I got such enjoyment over sending Balloons to Shawn D, that I decided to try flowers. Daffodils are her favorite:) They will arrive on Friday--though her birthday is not until Monday. She will be so surprised!

a latte grossness

New Thing #56

Today, I tried the new Honey Latte from Starbucks. It didn't look or taste nearly this good. It may be that that particular barista sucks, which I have found to be true previously. The girl with the Marilyn Monroe piercing makes the best drinks.

Live network tv should be available online for all...

New Thing #55

I was led to believe by the Official Academy Awards website that the Ocsars would be broadcast online. So I attempted to watch the Oscars online. But apparently, they are tricky bastards, because this wasn't so:( So I didn't get to watch and kept up via a blog. I'm so glad for the Oscar issue of People magazine--I can't wait to look at all the dresses!

Don't judge a restaurant by its name..

New Thing #54

I'm weird sometimes. For instance, I'll avoid a restaurant if I think it has a funny sounding name. So today, judgments aside, I finally ate at Macado's with my friend Anthony J. Macado's is a locally owned chain that specializes in crazy sandwiches many of which are served on bagels. I tried the cowpoke(which does not actually contain beef) and it was delicious. My only complaint is the un-padded booths and the creepy puppets in the entrance display.
